On Writing: Buy yourself a dictaphone

I got mine for Christmas and it’s one of the best presents I’ve ever received.
After the novelty of “note to self” has worn off, you can play your voice back. Once you get over the fact you don’t actually sound like Brad Pitt but some stuffed up student squirt you wouldn’t much want to know, you’ll find it really useful. Why? Because you can read dialogue aloud. You can read everything you’ve written. You can hear when something’s not quite right and you can critique wherever you are. Handy, eh?
